Let’s start the feature preview series with a small but really nice usability enhancement that lifts up the user experience of daily policy management to a new level. We have now extended the type ahead search to policy cells.
To add new elements into the policy cell you can just start typing the element name, IP, comment, port or basically any related information in the policy cell. The system will instantly search elements from all element types that can be added to the selected cell.

A small popup will appear, where you can select the elements to be added to the current policy cell. So now you can do most of the modifications directly with your keyboard without even touching the mouse.

In big environments where you have multiple administrators you often end up having duplicate elements with same IP address. StoneGate Management Center (SMC) has warned about duplicate IPs during element creation for years. But now in SMC 5.2 there is also a new clean-up tool for administrators to get rid off duplicate elements.
You can find this tool by selecting File – System Tools – Search Duplicate IPs.

Note that sometimes it is reasonable to have duplicate elements that have the same IP. But this new tool is supposed to help you to find the elements that could be merged.

Let’s begin the feature previews with a cool nice search feature you can utilize in all element lists & tables throughout the StoneGate Management Center (SMC). In SMC 5.2 you can just put focus to the element list and start typing any keyword. The system automatically looks for substring match from Name, IP, Comment and many other fields and filters away all the rows that don’t match your keyword.

In big environments there typically are thousands of host and network elements. With the help of the new type ahead search you can quickly find the correct elements from the long element lists without touching the vertical scroll bar. Note that this instant type ahead search is available also in dialogs where the space for selecting the elements is very limited (for example when selecting elements to be included in the Group element).
Once you’ll try it – you’ll love it!
