The configuration files StoneGate management system generates for the firewall engines can be displayed on the management GUI without actually installing the rulebase on the firewall.

The display configuration mode can be enabled by adding the following line in the GUI configuration file SGClientConfiguration.txt:
GUI_SecurityPolicyManagerDisplayConfiguration=true

or in SMC 4.x and newer
POLICY_DISPLAY_CONFIGURATION=true

Note that all GUIs using the configuration file should be closed before modifying the file to avoid overwriting the changes automatically.

Now the configuration files can be viewed in the Security Policy Manager, select your policy and right-click.

In addition to the “Open”, “Delete”, “Install”, and “Permissions” options, you find one more entry: ” Display Configuration Files…”

If the Management Client login and all the operations done with the GUI client are slow (e.g., refreshing a list of network elements takes long time), make sure the management and log servers’ hostnames can be resolved on the GUI client.

This can be ensured if the IP address and hostname pairs are added into the local hosts file on the client (/etc/hosts in Linux and \WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in Windows).
