With StoneGate’s Web filtering feature you can configure which type of resources in the Internet the users can access by using web browsers. StoneGate contains about 80 URL categories that you can use to inspect the traffic. URL categories are dynamically updated from external cloud service provided by a company called BrightCloud.
You can use URL categories both for blocking and whitelisting certain type of web sites. StoneGate’s Inspection policy will stop URL inspections when the first match is found. Thus, you can rely on rulebase order when defining what HTTP (and HTTPS) content should be allowed and what should be denied.

Technically the new URL categories are System Situation elements. That makes it possible to also use URL categories in reporting, statistics and logs.
Remember that you can also create manual URL lists and use them similar way in Inspection Policies like the new URL Categories.
The usage of StoneGate’s Web filtering feature requires an additional software license. Contact your StoneGate sales contact to get more information about licensing and prizing.
