StoneGate Firewall 5.1 introduces a new backup interface type. You can namely configure 3G modem interfaces for single node firewall elements. Once the new interface is configured in SMC, you can just plug in a 3G modem to appliance’s USB port and refresh the policy from SMC.

3G interfaces are useful especially for small branch offices or stores that don’t have a second wired line available. With 3G modem you can easily build a backup connection that may turn out to be a life saver in case wired line connection gets broken.
Stonesoft will have 3G modems in sales offering. But we will also publish a list of known 3G modem models that are compatible with our appliances (currently the tested modems include: Huawei E220, Huawei E270, Nokia CS-15, and Sierra Compass 889). Note also that you can use an extension cable, in case your appliance is in the place where there is no 3G coverage. More information about the usage of USB extension cables can be found from here.
