StoneGate SSL VPN version 1.4 is the next major version of this product line and it’s just few days away… while waiting for the downloadable upgrade, let’s review the main news.
StoneGate SSL VPN joins our virtualization strategy, with the release of a SSL VPN Virtual Appliance compatible with both VMware’s ESX/ESXi 3.5 and 4.0 (vSphere) versions.
Based on Open Virtual Format (OVF) standard, StoneGate SSL VPN virtual appliance allow rapid deployment and implementation of mobile access to cloud computing thanks to multiple features dedicated to this world such as strong authentication, flexible application portal and support for Federation ID standards such as SAML 2.0 and ADFS.
We are continuing to integrate SSL VPN engine with StoneGate Management Center as new versions are released. Integration features of this release include:
- Centralized licensing in SMC
, allowing all licenses for all SSL VPN engines to be efficiently managed with SMC License Manager, to minimize TCA - Hardware monitoring (NIC and filesystem status on the engine) from SMC, active for both physical and virtual appliances.
- Improved logging and reporting in SMC, with better field parsing and reporting templates.
From network integration and end point security perspective, innovations are:
- TCP Port Forwarding: it is the ability to configure port forwarding configurations in SSL VPN, making it act as a proxy with the possibility of combining port forwarding rules
with certificate authentication. - End Point Security for MAC OS X
It is now possible to use assessment rules with MAC OS X clients.
The functionality can be used to check the presence of files and their checksums. -
Ticket SSO enhancements
Ticket Single Sign On support has been extended and tested with systems such as Salesforce.com and Fronter eLearning.
Ticket SSO allows dynamic web service to web service conversation to automate and empower authentication processes. -
Support for Windows 7 clients (both 32 and 64 bit)
We have also introduced three new licensing options:
- StoneGate SSL VPN Virtual Appliance
There is now a virtual appliance version of the StoneGate SSL VPN. compatible with VMware Virtual Infrastructure, containing optimized network drivers.
SSL VPN Virtual Appliance is subject to specific licensing and does not consume node count on SMC.
- StoneGate SSL VPN Spike Licensing
Spike licenses are temporary licenses that are used for increasing the number of users in emergency situations. The boost is up to the maximum users supported by the owned appliance for a time of three months.
During this time, the customer will have also Premium Support regardless of the Support Contract active for the previous license.
The activation of Spike License can be done only once, it must be done within max 1 year from purchase and will last three months from activation date. - StoneGate SSL VPN HA Licensing
Stonesoft have introduced affordable licenses for mirrored SSL VPN appliances.
These licenses can only be used with mirror appliances, and cannot be installed to stand-alone appliances.
